D.S. Arnauld Hi Jade, it may have got lost along the way. I will send you an autographed copy. Thank you for being patient and I hope you enjoy the book.

D.S. Arnauld Searching on Pinterest for ideas for a Halloween costume. That's now I fell in love with the Steampunk genre. The prison setting in my book is a metaphor for teens' experience in highs cool. I modeled the villain Meredith after Silence of the Lambs while listening to Gone Girl on audio. I hope that isn't giving too much away!
D.S. Arnauld I am very right brained. I actually have far more new ideas than I could ever produce, but I have studied creativity and know how to work my own brain.

First I let my mind go completely blank, like a zen state, then stuff starts bubbling to the top. I combine two concepts into something new. Steampunk + Highschool + The Industrial Revolution + Love Triangle
D.S. Arnauld I am in the editing process of my first YA romance with a love triangle. It is set in the genre of Steampunk, which I love! The book is called Steam. Depending on how it is received and if their is a demand for a sequel, I may stay with those characters or I may begin another illustrated book and do some painting.
D.S. Arnauld Buy and study Scene and Structure by Jack Bickham. It is ground zero for writing in my opinion. The other books in this series are great too.

My advice is use an outline. Write one chapter a day. Always finish a story, because people read a book for the climax and if you don't practice writing exciting endings that really payoff, how will you ever get good at writing a page turner!

D.S. Arnauld Starting a new project and choosing the character names. When you build a world you get to set the rules, but then you have to stick to them: POV, technology, distance, who has power and for how long?

My favorite part of the process is the first few days of pure creativity at the beginning. I've read Da Vinci felt the same way and that is why he wasn't concerned with finishing things. I empathize completely.
D.S. Arnauld I do right brain activities like going for a walk, painting, taking a bath. These are all great for using the whole mind. Sometimes you just need to let go and see a funny movie or spend time with friends and laugh. Idea maps are also good for getting out of a hyper critical downward loop, and for finding new connections. This is horrible, but I also watch bad movies and make a list of all the things they could have done better. But the absolute best thing for new ideas is floating. If you have a place to swim or can rent a kayak, it will solve all of your thinking problems.
