John David Buchanan I write science fiction, so I get to dream up now what might be reality in 30 years.
John David Buchanan Not every idea turns out to be a great idea at that moment. Write it down anyway. When a storyline presents the right context you marginal idea may become a brilliant one.
John David Buchanan I don't force it. If I have other things going on that need attention I tend to those. Then, when I sit down to write, ideas and story lines always present themselves. My goal is to write everyday, but I don't. I think the little breaks from writing diffuse creative pressure. I spend a lot of time reading - stock reports, news articles, scientific writings, comics, etc. I am a musician so I spend time listening to music and practicing. For me, distractions brings clarity.
