My novel Eaglechild is based, in part, on certain political events that happened in 1979-1982 in which the Indian nations of Canada went to London to protect their treaties. I am currently writing a non-fiction memoir of my own involvement in those events. The book is Nation to Nation and will be available in November 2015. Details on my website: www,victoroconnell.com

Eaglechild is a very long novel so has many ideas. My idea about the visit to England in 1982 of an 82 year old "Red Indian" troublemaker to see the Queen and confront the British Parliament arose from my personal acquaintance with a Cree Indian who did that in 1982. That political event is described in my forthcoming memoir - Nation to Nation. The idea of the son of a British Earl having a tipi in Oxfordshire and an imaginary blood brother came from my acquaintance with people throughout Europe who also try to reconstruct the "Red Indian" way of life. Almost all aspects of my novel arise from my experience or from my knowledge as an anthropologist.
