I don't regard not being able to write as blockage, but more of a writer's rebellion. Sometimes I just don't want to write. I'll sit behind my computer and think, "now's the time to declutter" or "what kind of sale is going on at Bloomingdales?" So I'll do other things, until that need to tell the story overpowers all other impulses or wants. Everything else becomes trivial.

I wanted to write a very light (so light it could float!) book - an escape hatch from reality, carved with words, to leave everyday life behind for myself and for my readers. I love mysteries - I took my lawyerly life, twisted it around, turned it upside down, and my book was born.
