Rachel Runnalls I wrote 'HIDING - every scar has a story' out of my own wrestle with the hard stories I heard from my friends in high school, and youth I worked with both inside the church and at a youth emergency shelter in my city. I am a pastor's kid, and my home life growing up was safe and loving. When I was 14 a friend of mine disclosed some of their history of family abuse and it really hit me - how could that happen? And then as I grew older, the question became - how could a supposedly good God let that happen? So a lot of Jon White's character and home life come out of my own experience wrestling with doubt and the church.
Rachel Runnalls Yes! After seven years walking with these characters, I am still thinking and writing about them. SPOILER ALERT. It's one thing to write a rescue story - we've all read those and the 'happily ever after' they assume. Real life is far more complex, and that complexity has always interested me as a writer. This early in the writing process I'm not sure if I have a full-length novel in the making, but I will find creative ways to share it when it is finished.
