Bruce Foot I think writer's block, for me at least, is not that we have run out of creative juice (You know that heart-pumping fuel that drives us forward in a story.) I believe It's the mind's ability to convince us that we have nothing left in the tank. For good or bad, our mind blocks our view of the creative horizon; protecting us from more hard work, more writing, more editing; shielding us from disappointment. What if everyone hates it, or laughs at my efforts? All those self-doubts.
The best way to beat the block is to hit it with something hard. Hit it with persistence! Write with guts. Sit down and write. Write anything. Get past the mud-sodden bog by moving forward until you hit dry land.
Bruce Foot It sounds obvious, but - write. Every word, every sentence you string together doesn't need to be perfect the first time you create it. I get the ideas and the words onto page (notepad, scraps of paper, smart phone notes, computer, whatever) without concerning myself too much with spelling, punctuation etc. It's a stream of thought without the speed humps. Get it down, keep moving forward, worry about the editing when it's time to edit.
Bruce Foot My most recent book is almost cooked. Expected release - September 2015. It's titled, 'Ned Smelly - Outlaw Stuck in Iron Suit. It's set in the Australian gold fields of the 1800's. Ned really wants to be a famous bushranger like the rest of his family. But Ned stinks big time. He gets his uncle, blind Patty the blacksmith, to make a suit of iron. But the suit gets stuck and Ned gets hot and stinky. Now he is famous, but for all the wrong reasons.
