Write all the words! Don't publish the first book. Write a couple more first, because you need time to develop style and voice. Then go back and re-write that first one.

Sometimes you have to just sit your butt in the chair and write words, whether you are feeling it or not. You may not write as many words as when you're in the zone, but the forward momentum builds as you type.
