I go away from the keyboard until it is resolved....usually in a few days. If that does not work, I go back and pound away until the block goes away.. These are the two best ways I know to get over a block. If all else fails, I start writing something different and then go back to the blocked work.

I have taught communications and writing skills for many years at various universities. I tell any writer that the best way to learn how to write is to write and continuing to write. Equally as important, have someone read what you wrote and be brutally honest with you. Thankfully, I have had many people review my writing over the years and have learned much.

Right now I am doing what every author should be doing, publicizing my book which is the first of a trilogy. Getting the next two ready for publication. In these, I actually covered some of the events described. Several of which I was not able to write about in publications until now and most of the protagonists are dead.

I have been a reporter and editor for more than 50 years but this is my first fiction writing. Of course some of my readers have said I have been writing fiction for years in my reporting. Wrote this book at night over the a six month period. Then re-wrote it twice.

I actually started to write a quite different book but eventually settled on this approached after finding old notes from an interview I did with an elderly lady who worked in a family for two generations in a Newark, NJ suburb. She told interesting stories about the families and this became the basis of my book
