It was the juxtaposition that India and Pakistan experienced after attaining independence. As the population has migrated from one place to the other, how the first generation migrants respond to the idea of enmity between the two nations – when forced to act against their birth place, in the interests of the living country. Though the migrants from west have largely mingled in India, migrants to Pakistan were always referred to Muhajirs. Though Muhajirs were treated differently, there are some who rose in the country’s establishment. In fact, General Musharraf was born in New Delhi and Manmohan Singh was born in Punjab of Pakistan. How, a person, who still likes the place of his birth would respond to the challenges that are purely political in nature – was at the core of this book.
