Kara D. Wilson Hi there! Per my previous publisher's recommendation, I split The Aurora Chronicles into FOUR books. They are in this order: The Empress' Consul, The Regent's Daughter, The Assassin's Apprentice, The Emperor's Raven. So, the two books became four! Apparently they were quite long. Hope this doesn't cause too much confusion! Check in on www.karadwilson.com for more information!
Kara D. Wilson For hours she stood in line with the other poor schmucks who had deemed it their mission to visit the DMV that day. After waiting for over two hours, she finally reached the clerk's counter - only to discover she had forgotten her social security card!
Kara D. Wilson Honestly, my initial answer is pretty cliche - Harry Potter! I mean, the more knowledge you acquire, the more magic you can use! But, to give a more interesting answer - His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman. I want a spirit animal to hang out on my shoulder or to sneak around with!
Kara D. Wilson I just read The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater and found it extremely compelling, but not in the conventional sense. When I have the time, my next reads are:
Sky in the Deep, Adrienne Young
Hullmetal Girls, Emily Skrutskie
Tess of the Road, Rachel Hartman

Kara D. Wilson So, my recent book - the one I'm working on right now (Affinity Code) - came from the world of KPop actually. With the recent news of BTS - a famously popular boy group from Korea - being required to serve in the military per the nation's conscription requirement, I began to wonder how they would fare. What would life be like for them? I know, it sounds like a fan's fantasy, but honestly I just liked the concept of an internationally-renowned group being forced into military service. Ha!
Kara D. Wilson Inspiration is everywhere and it differs for everyone. But, personally, I find inspiration in music. I can listen to an orchestral piece and images like a film will fill my mind. Then I apply those scenes to my books.
Kara D. Wilson A dystopian thriller called "Affinity Code," which I am planning on launching later this year.
Kara D. Wilson Write, write, write. Find time every night, or every morning. Write when you don't feel like it. Have your document open in the background to push and urge you to go to it!
Kara D. Wilson Sharing the worlds you created with others. I am intimately tied to all of my characters. They are good friends of mine, but they only exist within my mind and the walls of my books. So, my favorite thing is sharing those people and their lives with others!
Kara D. Wilson When I don't know what is to happen next in a book, I sit down and make a list of possible outcomes or actions. For example, (1) He goes to a cafe and finds his girlfriend; (2) He gets into a fight on the way to a cafe; (3) He is abducted by aliens, etc. I add things that are really, really ridiculous to the list. I add more and more to the list until I can't think of anything. THEN, I review what I've written. Most of the ideas are bad, but... sometimes two abstract ideas work together and become a great plot point!
