I just read Happy Family and I have to say the book stayed with me long after I finished it. I devoured it in about two days because Cheri and her story is so intense and complex that I couldn't put it down. I confess that I didn't like her at times but I admire her strength and willingness to pick herself back up. I liked the ending as well. What or who inspired you to write this story?

Tracy Barone Thank you so much, Adriana. Glad you enjoyed the book. I was inspired by the Tolstoy quote and wanting to explore how we never know our parents outside of their roles as our parents, and what if we did? Would it allow us to find forgiveness for the secrets and lies, and ultimately change the story we tell ourselves about ourselves? Cheri was loosely based on a friend of mine from college who was studying comparative religion with me and unexpectedly became a cop. I wanted to create a protagonist who was full of dichotomies, yearning for connection but pushing it away with both hands....afraid to look into her own origins but desperate to solve an ancient mystery.
