My problem is more about sitting down and focusing on writing.
Once I do that, I usually ask myself, "Okay, which of you scenes wants to be written now?" Seriously, I talk to my work and characters all the time, and I'm so grateful that they typically answer.

There are so many wonderful things - which is great, because writing is a challenging career:
- Answering the inspiration that calls to me.
- The times that ideas just pour onto the page faster than I can write.
- Hearing that someone stayed up all night to finish my book.
- Having kids and adults tell me why they love a character - or dislike one.
- That moment when a scene in the book really feels right, and done.
- Meeting other people who love to read and write.

- Don't try to follow the pack.
- Write your own vision, and take the time to write and edit well.
- Find or form a writing/critique group that you trust – I would never have published without the honesty (yes, sometimes hard to hear) and support of mine.

I'm currently writing the sequel to Dreamhaven, and also working with artist/illustrator Lucy Arnold on a new picture book. We have a great time coming up with the illustrations, and she is such an amazing illustrator that suddenly my character is right there before me. In truth, she's spent many, many hours researching everything from colors to paw positions etc.
With luck, both books will publish in 2017. Please keep your fingers crossed!

I feel Inspiration is a huge gift, constantly flowing if I'm listening. I struggle sometimes because I can't possibly write all the stories, books and music I have in a huge (growing) list.

I wanted to write an adventure book for kids that covered some topics very important to me including, friendship; how to be a good friend; loyalty and how to judge when loyalty to someone is appropriate. Rogo, one of the characters in Dreamhaven, is the leader of the weasel boogle, (isn't that a great collective noun?) and he is too fond of throwing around both his weasel weight and nasty slogans such as: "Less is for Losers" and "Tomorrow is Somebody Else's Problem." Using derogatory and catchy, empty phrases to influence and bully are not the sign of a friend or leader that has your best interests at heart.
