I want to say the money, except that would be a lie. So... the best thing is that when the entire mind-numbing process of writing/editing/proofing/re-writing/rinse/repeat/publishing is done... there's another book on the shelf that I actually like. There can never be enough of those.

Lately, writer's block for me could be nailed down to one simple thought: "I don't want to do this." Either I'm tired, I'm annoyed at something, or maybe I've hit a point in the story where the particular scene doesn't appeal to me. Too often, I'll procrastinate. Maybe go play Civilization for a while. But to actually get through it, I need to force myself to just start putting words down. I accept that what I write may not be very good, but I'll fix it up in re-writes. I need to get past this and move on to the point where writing becomes a joy again.

Primarily the sequel to Until All Curses Are Lifted. I also have a YA fantasy that needs a rewrite. (Two words: cybernetic dragons.) I have various other books in brainstorming stages - more fantasies, and a few quasi-sci-fi.

The earliest roots came from a brainstorming session with a friend back in college. When I pulled those notes out a few years go, I started adding details, developing a magic system, etc. The key to the whole story was the Laws of Cursings and Bindings. What if a Moses/Hammurabi-type character presented the laws to his people in a world of magic? And they decided to use magic to enforce the laws?
