Right now I'm working on a collection of funny essays. My favorite thing is to make people laugh so that's where I'm focusing my attention.

I don't. I make myself sit down every day and write. Sometimes it flows, most of the time it doesn't. I treat writing like a job - which it is for me - so if I wait for inspiration, I'll be taking days off all the time!

I got the idea for BOUNCE after my husband died, people at my speaking engagements kept asking me how I handled everything. His illness, death, raising a child with autism, helping my other child who has severe anxiety, living on a farm in the middle of nowhere and not knowing what I was doing. I used to say "I don't know how I did it." And then one day I asked myself the same question and realized it came down to my own resilience. It was bad enough cancer was going to take one of us, but I'd be damned if it was going to take the other three. I fought hard and still managed to laugh a lot through it all. And I learned to be grateful, always. In looking at how I "handled it all," I realized there was a book in there and that became BOUNCE.

The best advice I can give to aspiring writers is to read, read, read, and of course to write. Daily. Every chance you get. Even if it's only five minutes here and there. And don't fuss over it and try to make it perfect. Just get the draft out of you. Remember: You can fix a bad page, but you can't fix a blank one.
