Rebecca Addison I was on holiday with my family in Malaysia and I was awake in the night (as I often am). I had a small strand of an idea come to me and I knew it was something I wanted to explore. I've had to wait a while to start it though because I had Still Waters to edit and proof, and a children's novel to get ready for submission. Thankfully the idea was patient enough to wait around.
Rebecca Addison I'm working on a novel set in Hawaii. I'm not sure where it will sit genre-wise but I think it will be similar to Still Waters in that it will be a New Adult novel that appeals to older readers.
Rebecca Addison Read widely, not just in your genre but all different types of books. Read poetry, listen to music and try to find time in silence at some point throughout your day. Go outside. These are the things from which ideas grow. Once you have your idea write every day. Don't think too much when you're writing, try not to overanalyse it. A first draft is all about feeling, not perfection. In fact, let go of the idea of perfection in your writing now, because it doesn't exist and will just make the journey harder.
Rebecca Addison So many things! The feeling I get when an idea pops into my head. Developing my characters. Those rare times when writing feels like magic. I love all of it (except editing, I hate editing).
Rebecca Addison Stubbornness. I try to write every day, even if it's just a few words. The more I write, the easier it becomes.
