Leslie Hauser I would travel to BookWorld with Thursday Next. I'd love to have a job at Jurisfiction. This Jasper Fforde series is the most creative series of books I've ever read.
Leslie Hauser Ivy isn't really based on anyone I know. When I was creating the character, I wanted to write about those kids who go through school under the radar. These are the kids who just go about their business, and the world isn't focusing on them because they aren't in the uber popular set nor are they the focus of bullying. I wanted to celebrate and bring notice to these kids. Some of these kids are the ones who gave me my most memorable moments from high school.
Leslie Hauser Being a teacher definitely helps me understand and keep up with teen life. It also reminds me that while I may be (slightly? lol) older than today's teens, really not much has changed! Their worries and fears and interests are the same as mine were as a teen. Just exchange the fluorescent for Chucks and the mixed tape for an iPod. Being a history teacher reminds me of this, too. Despite the difference between an ancient culture and modern times, the essence of people and their ideas doesn't change much. It's just the backdrop that changes.
Leslie Hauser Chasing Eveline is my love letter to music. From my very first album (Olivia Newton-John's Greatest hits!) to the break-up mixed tapes of my teens to the song on my iPod that have pushed me through marathons, music has always been by my side. Like a best friend. I wanted to share this love with the world. And at one point, I was going through an 80s phase where I was stuck in the glory of past music. I wished so much that those bands were still around. I combined this two desires and the sum total was....Chasing Eveline!
