From looking at the state of the world and various threats to humanity that - if we don't take appropriate action - could result in us becoming extinct. That may sound fanciful, but we're now the only survivor of a number of species of homo sapiens that lived in the past. If we don't want to become the last, some changes will be needed, and trying to avoid that outcome will make for exciting times!

My inspiration is the natural world and our place within it, and my writing is fed by a compulsion to create stories that will entertain, while examining the problems that are building for homo sapiens! We're the most brilliantly successful species that ever lived, by some measures, but are we too clever for our own good?

Building awareness for Mother Earth! I'm very conscious of the huge gap between the budget of major publishers, spending thousands on marketing a book, and my very limited funds as a self-published author. So I'm now playing catch-up with social media and blogging. My website focuses on the issues in the book, so people who like my posts there, or my tweets, may naturally find the novel of interest.

The fantastic sense of freedom: a blank sheet, with nobody telling you what words to write on it. You don't get that in many jobs!

I think you just have to try to work through it, to be disciplined and sit down and write, even if you can only manage a few words. It's tooeasy to use it as an excuse to do something easier. But I think the best way is to have a clear idea of your plot framework. I didn't, to begin with, so found myself pausing to work out an outline after I'd got some way in, then having to backtrack and re-write.
