Dear Sir: I see you've read Raymond Chandler's "Long Goodbye". I just completed a "Mid-20th Century North American Crime Readathon" which included 250 reviews (a number of books I did not finish reading.) I've read all 7 of Raymond Chandler's work, including "Big Sleep" and an "Annotated Big Sleep". Who is your favorite American Crime Author? Thanks, Greg
Abir Mukherjee Hi Greg.
That's a great question.
In truth, I haven't read anywhere near as much American crime fiction as I should have. I was brought up in the traditions of Tartan Noir and the English Agatha Christie style crime writing, though I do enjoy American hard-boiled crime. My favourite US author though, has to be Martin Cruz-Smith. I adore his Arkady Renko series set in Communist era Moscow. Indeed, his novel, Gorky Park, is one of my all-time favourites.

Dear Sir: I much enjoyed "A Rising Man" and "A Necessary Evil" is here at home. I'm now reading a fiction and/or 'nf' work by an author born in every country: my goal is depth of cultural knowledge. (I feel there is often as much truth in 'fiction' as in 'nf',) May I ask your country of birth? I do understand a reticence: privacy is important. With respect and admiration, Greg (An answer of UK will be understood.)
Abir Mukherjee Hi Greg. Sorry for the delay. I had my head down doing edits for the new book and haven't been on Goodreads for a while. In answer to your question, my parents came from India, and I was born in London but moved to Scotland when I was very young. As such, I feel far more Scottish than I do English, and consider myself a British-Asian. Hope that helps!
