D.M. Draper The concepts for my first novel “Party Apocalypse” were some things I’d been kicking around in my head since first seeing the Dawn of the Dead remake back in 2004. I wanted to tell a zombie story with powerful themes and larger-than-life characters. I have also always been inspired by the creative spirit of films such as “Pulp Fiction” and “Planet Terror,” and my novel is an attempt to reconcile these ideas with a commercial structure.

Of course, the secret to creating a great zombie novel is to develop memorable characters and build a strong story. Though the focus in “Party Apocalypse” is more on the people than the various situations, it remains firmly entrenched in the zombie mythos. In many ways, the book is self-aware; it is about the zombie genre, as well as the reasons the undead have continued to win our hearts.
