Dan Taylor I usually get really angry and have serious thoughts of what my laptop would look like without a screen. But I cool down quickly. I write a lot of humor into my books, and some days the silliness doesn't flow. When that happens, I just need to remember how much a new laptop costs, walk away, and then come back when the wires in my brain that write my comedy are connected again.
Dan Taylor Writing the last sentence of a novel and nailing it. Sometimes what you write surprises you. That's a good feeling.
Dan Taylor The fourth novel in my Jake Hancock P.I. series. For those of you who don't know the series, the best way to describe it is with a ridiculous simile: It's like the result of a bored giraffe, two pairs of roller skates, and a very steep hill.
Dan Taylor Write what comes naturally, not what you think you're supposed to write. I thought for years a writer had to be really intelligent, now I think they have to be entertaining.
Dan Taylor Eight hours' sleep helps, and coffee. But seriously, like any writer, I fear sitting at the keyboard and nothing coming, even though I've written four novels. Doubt can be an issue. I usually start by reading the last chapter or so, finding inspiration from a joke I've written or a wisecrack. And then I go from there. I usually make myself laugh two or three times during writing sessions, but the next day the same routine of finding inspiration from yesterday's good bits of writing starts again.
