Oh, this is tricky.
I've read books all my life, and most of them lean heavily towards the fantastical and the romantic. I found the ones with mythical elements the most intriguing. Reading The Mythology Class by Arnold Arre back in High School rocked my world because WOOOOOOO PHILIPPINE MYTHS. Then a few years ago, the Trese series by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo re-ignited my interests. A plot bunny began hopping around in my head.
When I wrote the short story "Shake-Ups" for the Incredible Truths story bundle, I thought I'd put that particular bunny to rest. But she's still hopping.
So now I'm writing a short story collection set in the same universe as "Shake-Ups". Go figure. :))

Pick up a pen. Put it to paper. Move that pen around until you form words. Organize the words.
Share them with the world.
I know that last bit is the SCARIEST part. I feel that way all the time. But all you need is a few seconds of courage to hit "Publish" or "Send".
Trust me, those few seconds are AMAZING.

The best thing about being a writer? It's having an excuse to stay in your head for a few hours. :)
"Ssssshhhhhh. I'm outlining. Come back later. Preferably with tea."

If I don't NEED to write? I take a break. Read other books, play with my cats, watch some TV, eat all the things.
If I DO need to write, I just write any dang thing that comes to mind on a blank page until my brain kickstarts again. After all, the muse won't come unless we give it a call. :)

This is really tricky, because it's different every time.
Sometimes inspiration comes on my way home, and I have to scramble to the nearest notebook. Sometimes I force myself to write everything that comes to mind on a blank page until I don't have a choice BUT to write.
In both cases, large amounts of Coca Cola can really help. :)

Right now, I'm working on a book of short stories set in one universe--in which creatures and characters from local myths and legends are long-thought dead. :)
