My favorite fictional couple would have to be Pyramus and Thisbe--the original star-crossed lovers. Their story has been retold in so many forms: Amoryus and Cleopes, Romeo and Juliet, Tony and Maria . . . the list goes on. Whenever you hear tragic a story about doomed lovers from feuding factions, you can usually trace their roots back to Ovid's original duo of disastrous relationships.

The round trip presented us with a total of five days to fill, so we talked. I brought up the idea of the book and we discussed it at great length. The rest, as they say, is history.
