Anne Hamilton I'm editing my first novel, Chasing Elena, and I'm preparing for the re-launch of A Blonde Bengali Wife, which is being reprinted and launched as an eBook in November 2015.
Anne Hamilton Waiting for inspiration is like waiting for Christmas; you wait and wait and wait, then it comes, briefly, and is gone for another year. Don't wait for inspiration, start writing - you might surprise yourself. Oh, and don't compare yourself to others; every writer is unique.
Anne Hamilton Being able to create my own little world, where the things I want to happen, happen, and the characters (eventually) always have the right word at the right time. I like that idea so much I wrote part of my PhD thesis on it!
Anne Hamilton I have two options for the dreaded writer's block. The first is to keep going, keep writing - even when it feels as impossible as pushing custard up a mountain with a rake - because writing is a job like any other and I wouldn't give up cooking a fancy dinner half way through or walk out on a difficult class I was teaching.. Pushing on often works, and even if most of it is later deleted, there's often some small nugget that passes... However, if I can actually feel my blood pressure rising and I really, really feel like stabbing the computer keyboard, I go for a walk. Fast. Thinking of nothing but moving my legs. If nothing else, the outside space puts things into perspective.
