Mia Heintzelman If my story isn't ready to tell itself, I move on to something else. I write anything else.
Mia Heintzelman Being a writer is like having dancing words within me that can only be released through my fingers. It's liberating and humbling to have stories choose me to be their person.
Mia Heintzelman Write often! Read wide. Make writing a habit and figure what is your process. There is no right way to write. There's only your way with your spin on it.
Mia Heintzelman Right now, I'm celebrating the accomplishment of my new book. I've written another children's book and I'm working out the kinks for the illustration and there's some poetry brewing on my back burner. I have this cute little app called, A Novel Idea, and I jot down ideas and and writing prompts. I'm getting ready for NaNoWriMo. There's a little Romance Mystery waiting to get out.
Mia Heintzelman Sometimes it's a word or another book. Other times, it's a story someone has told me. More often than not, it's something from the news or my sharped imagination that makes me give it a twist. The best way for me is to take events that I've encountered or heard about and mold the ending to the one I would have chosen, if I was in charge.
Mia Heintzelman I had a landline phone, imagine that. The phone would ring all the time and the callers would ask for either John or Joanne. It frosted my cookies something awful. There I was thinking that I was receiving call for me, and it was always for someone else. Eventually, I began to despise John and Joanne, but it gave me an idea. Since I was single at the time, I wondered what if it wasn't an accident that I was receiving calls for John. What if John was my someone? He wasn't, as it turned out, but it was a really good idea for my book.
