Walk the dog. When you go for a walk, take in the scenery, ideas seem to come.

Read a lot of books in the genre you're going to write in. Do your market research. I spent a lot of time writing horror until I found it wasn't popular in the UK. After seeing the crime thriller was popular, I slightly changed my approach to the market by rewriting my last book so it's more of a whodunnit. Girl on the Train is a good and popular book, so I made my main protagonist female, and also very unreliable. It seems to have worked, because I'm selling more than I did when I wrote straight horror! Oh, and have a good hook for your book - make it different to the norm.

The next book in my Dead whodunnit series. It's called Dead Twice. This time, a woman finds her own dead body which she hides. Now she has to find out who killed her before her body is discovered. It's a ticking clock - what'll happen when her body is discovered, and what happens if the killer finds she's also somehow still alive.

When I read so many good books, it makes me wish I could write something as good. I read Chalk Man by CJ Tudor and was blown away by this British author. It made me want to write and hopefully entertain people with my words.

I wanted to write a whodunnit thriller, but thought it would be fun having the murdered victim try and work it out along with the read.
