Sharryn Dotson I walk away from it, play with my kids, eat, drink, meditate, work out, whatever. Sometimes I have to sleep on it and then read the story from the beginning before an idea pops in my head.
Sharryn Dotson The freedom to say what you want in any voice you want. It's almost like being an actor. I can write and think how I think a police detective would, then turn around and write in the voice of an old woman. I love really learning my characters and making them as real as possible.
Sharryn Dotson Whatever ideas you have floating in your head, sit down and just write! It doesn't have to make sense and it could be complete jibberish, but I guarantee there will be some nugget in there that you'll say "I should expand on this and see where it goes." Don't worry about grammar or punctuation or anything like that. That gets fixed later. Just get the words down on paper.
Sharryn Dotson To be honest, meditation is what inspires me. I get some of my best ideas and plot twists after I meditate. Then it's just a matter of hashing out the outline so the story makes sense and flows.
Sharryn Dotson I thought I was finished with the series when I completed the third book, but I realized I left a lot of loose ends in the third one that I felt needed to be tied up. So, the 4th book, "Love or Battle," was conceived! I have also started an outline for another book that is completely different from the series.
Sharryn Dotson I'm participating in #NaNoWriMo this month, so I'm writing 50,000 words about how a mother deals with a very public and very controversial tragedy.
