Interaction with readers is by far the best part of my writing/publishing experience. To be able to talk with people who have entered the world I've created, even when there's criticism, is amazing.

The idea for Earthking came from a lot of places. Fantasy was always a favorite genre and the one I could lose myself in the easiest. I have two brothers who are nine and 11 years younger than me. 12 years ago I was living out of state and felt I was missing opportunities to speak into their lives as the older brother. I began to write Earthking as a way to teach them the things I wasn't there to anymore.

A theme I'm finding in some of the reviews for Earthking is that it's very much like a bedtime story. I love that. In a lot of ways that's always been my intention, to tell a story that brings a sense of comfort within that world and bit of home in the adventure. So, I write stories about worlds that feel like home to me. If it stirs something in me it's worth putting there for the reader.

Earthking is the first in a series so I've been working on the sequel with the hope of having it released by the end of 2016. It's a story with a lot of moving parts: new characters, expanding the mythology, etc. My goal is to continue Col's story in the spirit of the first book without feeling like I need to make Book 2 somehow bigger or fuller. I'm not a fan of sequels that rely on "filler" to up the page count.
