I write fiction stories while I write my garden books. I get stumped I just more to something else. When I go back to the garden book it is usually with the enthusiasm. So the answer to writer's block is writing! I have a fiction book that I have working on while I write my garden book for just this reason. The fiction book will probably never see the light of day but I enjoy it.

The best part of being a writer is, besides meeting fellow gardeners, is seeing people get excited by the idea and grow their own. I enjoy seeing pictures of other folks Indoor Gardeners. That is the best compliment and the most satisfying review.

I write the way I give my class, just a friendly conversation with fellow gardeners.

The inspiration to write this book came from presenting workshop around Vermont. Several people asked about it at class and that was the seed of the idea. I remember an early class when a local reporter took the workshop and said near the end "Why haven't I heard about this, this is fantastic?" and that was like watering the seed.

It was a simple desire to have fresh salad greens all winter. Gardening in Vermont leaves a long winter season, for gardeners. Also I enjoy gardening and the chance to continue gardening all winter was an added bonus! What I have found out is that this works well for folks with no garden plot and for those with a long hot summer where it is just as hard to grow salad green as in the cold winter in Vermont.
