This is a little bit of a spoiler but I feel that the concept of divorce is an ugly word/concept in our society. So I wanted to write a story where:
A. just because Peter and Grace got divorced didn't mean that they had to hate each other for the rest of their lives. And I'd like to believe I was able to accomplish that in the book...well, hopefully.
B. so many friends have introduced me to friends of theirs who have been going through divorce because I went through it and it was relatively amicable...at the time. So for some reason I was referred to as somewhat helpful to angry wives.
C. I also wanted to get the idea out, which was not an overarching theme but came out in a very brief conversation between Grace and her mother, that past generations worked at their relationships more than in our current society. I am not trying to say everyone should stay together even if they're miserable but everything takes work. I'll focus on this a bit more in the second book.

First, I really like my characters even if they're not all nice. So I am inspired to fill them out fully and add to the movement of the story. I feel like its a puzzle and the various pieces fit together neatly with more and more effort.

Well, I definitely have a follow-on story for what happens to the characters after the novel, Crushed, ends.
I also am dabbling with a historical novel of Napa Valley.
Plus, I am evaluating an idea I have for a new company...kinda outside the realm of writing, though :)

Make sure you get your book professionally edited. For me I hired three levels of editors:
1. Developmental: helped with character arcs, overall ability to fit succinctly into a good story.
2. Line: helped with consistency, flow and realism.
3. Copy: punctuation, grammar and spelling.
I felt it was money very well spent.

I get to create a world of people who I find interesting for various reasons. I like creating their personalities and how they interact with others.
