Mike Bodnar For me it has to be the partnership of Elvis Cole and Joe Pike, from the pen of Robert Crais. These two are perfect opposites; Cole (the world's greatest detective) is flamboyant and extrovert, while Pike is quiet, mysterious, like a slow-moving but deep and dangerous river.

Together they are a formidable force, and God help any of LA's baddies who find themselves on the sharp end of Cole's and Pike's investigations. On the other hand, both heroes can stand alone with heads held high, and have in fact featured independently in their own stories.

Robert Crais has hit on a winning formula with these two. Even Joe Pike would twitch the side of his mouth in agreement - the ex-Delta Force operstive's equivalent of a guffaw.
Mike Bodnar I'm currently in the very early stages of two books, one about returning to my native city after a 44-year absence, and the other a fictional work, set in the Second World War. Both are still very much in development!
Mike Bodnar Try writing as a blog. Feed chapters, or even segments, to your readers and try and build a following. Knowing you've got people reading - and looking forward to - your work makes it easier than trying to write a whole book before letting anyone see it.

On the other hand, you might have to steel yourself against negative feedback!
Mike Bodnar I get inspired to write every time I read something that falls effortlessly off a page. Other authors inspire me hugely, and then I find that what appears to be effortless writing is the hardest thing in the world.
Mike Bodnar Readers. Having other people enjoy, or resonate, with what you've written is very rewarding.
Mike Bodnar I move on and write something that I don't have a block about. This keeps me in writing mode, and eventually (hopefully!) I can get back to where I left off.
