Sarah Baughman I outline before I start writing, so I'll at least know what needs to be written. If I'm not feeling the words flow easily about my predetermined topic, I will just punch something, anything out. I can always go back later to change/improve/trash-and-start-again. In fact, if as I'm writing, I can tell it's going to be especially bad, I'll highlight it and put a note to fix it later in all caps.

The more regularly that I write, though, the less I find I have writer's block.
Sarah Baughman Like in so much that I do (housework, sewing projects, knitting or crochet projects...need I go on?), I start thinking as I work and that can be dangerous, as then I think of other, similar things I'd like to do.

That's how Penelope's Hope came to be.

I started writing Violet's Daybreak (book 2 of Regency Silhouettes) about seven or eight years ago. That was back before we had all four of our kiddos (just two at the time). As I wrote about Violet's friend, Penelope, and Violet's brother, Ash (though he had a different name back then), I started to think about Penelope's story and how it needed to be told. And so Penelope's Hope was born!

The artist component was inspired by my daughter, M, who is ten and loves all forms of art -- she is constantly drawing, painting, writing stories, singing, and even puts on little plays at home with her brothers for the hubby and me. :)
Sarah Baughman Read and write! I'm sure many other writers would answer in the same way. Read books in the genre you want to write, read books outside of the genre, read books about writing and plotting and creating characters. And write. I find that when I MAKE time to write every day (as opposed to squeezing it in when I can FIND time, my writing is much better and much easier. Like anything, practicing consistently is what will improve your skills.
Sarah Baughman I'm working on revisions to Book Two of my Regency Silhouettes series. My goal is to release it this winter!
