I'm doing NanoWriMo, the write a novel in a month challenge. I decided to use this time to write book 3 of another fantasy series I'm working on. Book 1 & 2 are written in draft and I wanted to get as much written of book 3 as I can before editing and publishing the other two.

Everything! I love writing, it's the only thing I ever wanted to do. Creating characters and watching their stories grow. I love those moments when everything just falls into place and makes total sense, even though you hadn't planned it that way.

I've been thinking about this lately and have just written a blog post on the subject. The main points would have to be go to creative writing classes, not just to learn but to meet other writers. Critiquing each others work helps you develop as a writer. And enter competitions offering critiques so you know where to make improvements. Use a professional critiquing service if you can. I found the editor's report invaluable. Finally, never give up, and be proud to call yourself a writer.

It started with an intriguing scene of a young woman tracking in the woods. She was with her two hounds and the prey they hunted had disappeared. I had to work backwards to find out who she was, why she was tracking in the woods and what it was that had disappeared.
My headstrong heroine, Varnia was born and her best friend, Paddren soon turned up to hijack the story.
