Constance Leisure I think Lillian Hellman said, "Writing means applying the seat of your pants to the seat of a chair." That means write every day, no matter what.
Constance Leisure I'm working on a new novel. But I believe it's bad luck to talk about it.
Constance Leisure I've always written, ever since I was a teenager. When my children went to university I put my fiction writing first, even going back to school to get a masters. Most important, I began writing seriously every day--that means writing even when you don't feel inspired. I've always been a storyteller and I believed deep down I had something to say.
Constance Leisure I had been writing novels (none published) that took place in America even though I'd been living in France for over 20 years. But nothing felt alive. Once I began writing about France the ideas flowed. I was inspired by the winemakers who are my neighbors, the history of France including the Second World War, shopping in the outdoor markets, and how everyone knew everyone else's business in my little town of 700 people. I had no idea how much I had absorbed over those years!
