Tya Marie Write what comes from your heart and makes you happy. Also, take your craft seriously and be sure to always work at it. Rome certainly wasn't built in a day so never feel bad if whatever you're working on isn't happening as fast as you like; writing is a process and you'll get to where you need to be when you're ready. Don't let anyone tell you that writing is a waste of time. Don't allow people to question the validity of a writing career. If writing is what you believe you're meant to do pursue it relentlessly.
Tya Marie I take a step back, close whatever is giving me writer's block, and just enjoy life. I may read, watch television, even getting some sleep. Any one of those activities takes the stress away and I'm able to think more clearly and focus on the part that's giving me trouble. Then I'll start reading from the beginning and usually by the time I get to where I was blocked I find the words flowing easier than when I force it.
Tya Marie The best thing about being a writer is being able to take your reader somewhere they've never been, allowing them to meet characters they didn't think they would like, and taking them on a journey they weren't expecting. But the best part has to be taking people who hate reading and converting them to readers.
Tya Marie I am currently working on the sequel to A Brooklyn Love Affair 1 & 2, which will be releasing pretty soon and its spinoff, Another Brooklyn Love Affair.
Tya Marie The idea for A Brooklyn Love Affair (ABLA) came from where most of my ideas come from: nowhere. At the time I was posting stories on Wattpad, a community where writers can create stories, and after having very little success in writing mainstream fiction I decided to delve into African American Fiction, which has always been a love of mine. I had a vague outline of what I wanted Vixen to be and her journey, but as I began to write and get feedback from readers I stopped planning and allowed the characters to create their own stories.
