The idea for Acqua Sacra came from real life experience. I heartily believe in "writing what you know." For what it's worth, that's my understanding of art "holding the mirror up to nature."
For three years, my wife and I restored an ancestral home in the Abruzzo mountains of Italy. From that project we got not only a house but a novel. The construction trials and tribulations in Acqua Sacra mirror the corrupt construction practices of my home province in Canada – Quebec. Hence the transatlantic locales of the book as well as the international legal office shenanigans (familiar to most Americans), together with overlays of eco-mafia and illegal migrant activity.
