Fred Herrin In the case of my novel Tour of Duty 1967 I had memories still vivid after five decades. Then along with considerable research, I was able to work them into an overall story. The story itself I developed over a period of only a few days and remained almost unchanged throughout the writing process. So as to the inspiration, I'd have to say that I gave myself the assignment to put my thoughts and memories on paper in an engaging and entertaining manner.
Fred Herrin My year in Vietnam was, to say the least memorable. Memories both good and bad have bubbled up all the years since. Writing the novel Tour of Duty 1967 allowed me to make use of those festering memories and observations in a useful and hopefully entertaining way.
Fred Herrin I've found that I can consistently write in the middle of the night. Often during the day, my mind wanders uncontrollably much as it did in school.
