Bibi Boom A cousin of my father's once did some genealogical research and it turns out there are some good soap stories among my ancestors that would actually make an interesting story.
Bibi Boom I am currently working on a screenplay for a TV series. And in the meantime I look to continue with the book I started years ago, De Paling en de Kroosjespruim.
Bibi Boom I was inspired by a documentary and interview I saw on the subject of Scientology and was fascinated by the various methods of manipulation.
Bibi Boom Lord and Lady Maccon from the Alexia Tarabotti books by Gail Carriger. Although they quarrel from time to time, they are a perfect couple, that trust each other completely. They both have quirks and love each other for them, rather than tolerating or even despicing each other’s strange habits or difficulties. To me, that is the meaning of true love.
Bibi Boom Hi Eema, thanks your message. I already have a Black Belt. Got certified in 2012. What about yourself?
Bibi Boom To get through writer's block, I write. Now wait, hear me out. When I get stuck with a story, I leave it for a while and write on something else completely, a scene for another book, a short story, a blog, a long e-mail, anything really. If all inspiration fails, I just write random nonsense. As long as my fingers keep hitting that keyboard. To write, even if the text itself isn't in any way useful, gets me back in the flow. It help. Try it.
Bibi Boom I would advise the same as I was advised by a fellow author: start participating in writing competitions. There are dozens of writing competitions every year, on all possible themes and genres. Most are for short stories, which is not only practical because it is far less time consuming to write a short story than it is to write a full novel, but the word limit also helps you say only what needs to be said to tell your story. Also, the fact that most competitions have a theme or a subject within which your story should fit. This helps you channel your creativity and come up with something original within the provided framework. And the third bonus is that, if you're getting a hang of it, publishers might start noticing your work and remember your name.
Bibi Boom I get inspired by people. Not necessarily the people that are close to me, my friends and family, but random people on the street, in the train, at a bar. Whiffs of conversation that I accidentally overhear start living their own lives inside my head, and I can't help but create a story around what I just heard. This is why I love Peter van Straaten, a Dutch writer and comic writer. His strength is to draw a single picture with a single line of text below, with which he manages to tell a complete story. I admire that. This is also why I like to write short stories, like 400 words short.
Bibi Boom The same as for any job that really is your passion: doing what you love. If you have the talent to be passionate, you can be passionate about anything. And therefore, doing what you love for a living is the ultimate dream. That's how I see it.
