In CHANGE OF HEART, Lydia is the oldest sister, trying to keep her wayward younger sister from getting into trouble during Rumschpringe. I identify with her because I'm the oldest sister and always felt a great weight of responsibility to take care of my younger siblings.

My brain is usually brimming with ideas. My main problem is deciding which ones to write first. If I get stuck while writing one project, I'll switch to another. I also find walking, traveling, and doing art help fill my creative well.

I'm working on edits for BURIED SECRETS, book 2 in my Amish series, SISTERS & FRIENDS. Emma's staying with her older sister Rachel to help care for the newborn twins when she falls for a new neighbor, Samuel. When long-buried secrets from Emma's past come to light, they cause a rift between her and Sam -- a rift that may never be mended.
I'm writing the third book In GIFT FROM ABOVE, Sarah's in love with her older sister's jilted boyfriend, but he wants nothing to do with her and her family. Then an accident leaves an Englisch (non-Amish) man needing her care. Will she fall for an Englischer like her sisters did or find her true love in the Amish faith?

Everyone says to read, read, read. And that's true. But you also need to write, write, write. So many people write one book and set out to get it published, but as a former editor, I always recommend writing at least 3-5 books before seeking publication. I'm a strong believer in the theory that it takes 10,000 hours to master a craft. So keep writing, learn your craft, join a critique group, attend writing conferences, and most of all, have fun.

Having the freedom to plan my day and travel whenever and wherever I'd like. I always found the 9-to-5 routine too confining.

I find writer's block is usually caused by fear. Often you know deep inside what you need to write, but don't want to dig that deeply or you worry it will be too painful. Close your eyes, ask yourself what you're afraid to face. Then try visual journaling (scribbling onto a blank piece of paper with markers, crayons, or pastels to express those feelings) or free-writing (stream of consciousness writing without picking up your pen).
