Jean Mellano I am working on creating a blog on Goodreads to carry on the conversations about mental illness and suicide. One of my goals for Slipped Away is to inspire conversation about these topics in an effort to remove the stigma associated with them.
Jean Mellano I believe what makes a good writer (which equates to good reading for people) is to have a passion for your subject. I have never been what I will call a writer until I lost the love of my life to suicide. Since Steve has passed, my sole passion in life is to tell his story in the hopes it can help others.
Jean Mellano This book had its origins in a Facebook tribute to Steve Tarpinian. Steve was my soulmate of 33+ years who took his own life. For weeks after he passed away, I would post some photos and anecdotes of Steve's life as part of my grieving process. Several people following my Facebook posts suggested I write a book. I was reluctant to do so since I don't consider myself a writer. However, I felt that Steve's story needed to be told. So many people were shocked over his passing and couldn't believe he suffered from depression. I hope to inspire conversation to help remove the stigma associated with mental illness. I also want to highlight that many individuals suffering from mental illness are not necessarily defined by the disease. Their lives can be productive and filled with joy, laughter, and love.

Finally, I want Steve's legacy to be his kind and compassionate self in spite of his own personal struggles. He was someone who impacted so many lives in a powerful and positive way.
