I love reader's feedback. A book is like a child that is finally sent out into the world. It is then, in the public realm, not quite yours anymore. But you still have this attachment from having nurtured it for so long. It's nice when someone else appreciates it.

Believe in your work. Read, read, read! And put a piece away for as long as you can so that you can read the work as if it was somebody else's. Belief is very important! If you don't back your writing, no-one will.

Serendipity! I never thought I'd write poetry. I like the meatiness of prose. But I stumbled across a book of Haiku, in the library, last year. 'Hearts of the matter' began on the back of an envelope...it was an intense, fairly short burst. Then, there was the editing, 'road-tests' with potential readers and finally, the shaping of the book.

I'm currently working on a second collection of poetry. It's less personal and has a social conscience as I love sociology. I have plans for a children's book, short stories and novellas.
