Mark Anthony Smith I'm hoping to read 'The Awakening and other stories' by Kate Chopin. 'Lord of the flies' by William Golding. Tim Burgess' book and Dennis Skinner's 'Sailing close to the wind'. All subject to current pain thresholds!
Mark Anthony Smith I don't wait for inspiration. That comes during the act of writing or during the editing process.
Mark Anthony Smith I read if I'm struggling to write.
Mark Anthony Smith I love reader's feedback. A book is like a child that is finally sent out into the world. It is then, in the public realm, not quite yours anymore. But you still have this attachment from having nurtured it for so long. It's nice when someone else appreciates it.
Mark Anthony Smith Believe in your work. Read, read, read! And put a piece away for as long as you can so that you can read the work as if it was somebody else's. Belief is very important! If you don't back your writing, no-one will.
Mark Anthony Smith Serendipity! I never thought I'd write poetry. I like the meatiness of prose. But I stumbled across a book of Haiku, in the library, last year. 'Hearts of the matter' began on the back of an envelope...it was an intense, fairly short burst. Then, there was the editing, 'road-tests' with potential readers and finally, the shaping of the book.
Mark Anthony Smith I'm currently working on a second collection of poetry. It's less personal and has a social conscience as I love sociology. I have plans for a children's book, short stories and novellas.
