I'm working on another mystery. It will also be set in Hilo, Hawaii, and there will be a return of many of the same characters as in Bones of Paradise.

I have worked as a forensic anthropologist for years and I have collected lots of stories...some of them too odd to be believed, even as fiction. People kept telling me I should write about my work but I was worried about issues of confidentiality. After all, my cases involved real people with real families who cared about them. Finally, I decided to take aspects of old cases from the mainland and sort of weave them together and then set them in Hilo, Hawaii. I kept the cases pretty gentle because I don't want to give the impression that Hilo is a dangerous place. I love Hilo; it's such a unique place to live with such wonderful people in it - so it became part of the story, too. The subplot with Lehua just came tumbling out of me. I had never heard of a Lundehund before - I looked at the AKC webpage to find a breed with a really unique, noticeable genetic trait. When I wrote, the plot was often as much of a surprise to me as I hope it is to you!
