J.E. Irvin Dripping from arterial spray, Mooney dropped the axe beside Lily's head and raced down the path into the woods. At the creek, the coyotes sniffed the coppery scent on the wind, and howled.
J.E. Irvin My immediate response is Dune. Since my first venture into the epic world created by Frank Herbert, I have imagined putting on a stillsuit and learning to sand walk. However, my recent readings of the Sarah J. Maas Fae books have made me wonder about traveling to her fairy worlds, too! There are so many wonderful fictional worlds by amazing authors, the grandest being the places Tolkien created. Who could turn down a trip to the Shire? Not me...so, I think I would choose Eriador first. I would undertake a grand adventure in the style of Bilbo Baggins, hoping that not all magic had passed beyond the Grey Havens.
J.E. Irvin Wow, how to answer this...I've just finished reading six novels for a competition and am now starting my backlog of queued novels, starting with Good Girl by Mary Kubica. I have a number of John Scalzi books to finish, as well as the Maas Court of Thorn and Roses series to begin. Other than that, I'm open to suggestions. I'd love to discover a new science fiction series, a strong historical romance and, as always, work my way through the best suspense/mystery/thrillers out there.
J.E. Irvin What an intriguing question! There is a mystery in my life...a question of paternity - my father's, a cache of letters destroyed and cryptic comments made by elderly aunts and uncles. I've always believed it would make a good mystery story and intend to write it one day. Thanks for asking!
J.E. Irvin The top of my list goes to Claire and Jamie Fraser, Diana Gabaldon's fictional lovers in the Outlander series. They are intelligent, inventive, strong-willed, courageous and their commitment to each other spans, literally, the ages. I aspire to create characters as memorable as these two...:)
J.E. Irvin Actualizing the story in your head...seeing characters come alive on the page and sharing this passion with others in the writing community.
J.E. Irvin This is not a problem for me! Honestly. Rather, I have too many ideas and not enough time to develop them. (I didn't say they were all great ideas...;))
J.E. Irvin Perseverance and a belief in yourself no matter how many rejections you receive. Best advice I ever heard: Submit, submit, submit. You can't get published if you don't send out your work.
J.E. Irvin I'm drafting my second novel, which takes place in the same fictional town but with different characters except for a few that crossover.
J.E. Irvin I've always been a writer, jotting down ideas and poems on whatever piece of paper was handy. I have folders filled with bits and pieces waiting to become stories. :)
J.E. Irvin A newspaper article recounting the story of a mother forgetting her daughter in the back of her car and the tragic consequences of that event caught my heart and wouldn't let go.
