There are parts here and there, but mostly small parts. I was in law school at some point and did meet an 18 or 19-year-old who'd already graduated with a degree in engineering (I believe his was chemical though). We were friends, but didn't hang out when we weren't at school. I also had a fiance and some of those scenarios are similar to what happened, but not exact by any means.
There are some of my family members that are near to characters in the story. Both Janine and Chloe are based on cousins although none of those scenarios ever happened.
Most of the places in the story are real places I've been. I went to school in Houston (including TSU mentioned in the book), grew up in Stockton, and my mom's family is indeed from Austin, and several members still live there.
There may be other similarities here and there, but all have been fictionalized including what I mentioned above.

To me it's just plain fun. I don't feel the need to be inspired, I just really love to do it. And it flows out of me which makes me feel fulfilled.

Having an outlet for all of those ideas running around in my head and those voices speaking to me (hopefully they're only characters or potential characters).

There was a time when I attended law school and became friends with a classmate who was actually only 18 and had an engineering degree. I was amazed by his level of commitment and it has always stuck with me. The idea for ALTERED is based in that meeting however it is completely fictionalized.

There's never a time when I can't think of anything to write, but there are times when I have to many threads going and am unsure which direction to go in. I usually take a walk or read and my head clears. I think the key is to make sure and try to write something each day, it can always be revised later.

I'm currently working on a series tentatively titled "Who's Jody Anyway?" It's set in the mid-80s about a young woman who decides to join the Army against her parents wishes who would prefer she go to college.

Don't give up. When I first started writing two years ago, I didn't know a whole lot about getting published. I Googled it and there were so many people saying it was near impossible. I didn't submit my finished novel at first because of all the discouragement and when I finally did, it was accepted by the first publisher I submitted to. I realize that isn't the norm, but if I'd listened to those detractors on the Internet, I wouldn't be in this position.
