A very good friend of mine committed suicide. I felt a need to address the feeling of needless loss without making a story about him - I felt it is an emotion shared universally between those who are 'left' after such an act. I decided to write a sci-fi story from the point-of-view of a character drastically different than I that nonetheless shares the same feeling of loss and the weight of the cruelty of life.
