Writing a book a month, I can choose any sixty hours a week that I want to work. =P

I'm a firm believer in planning. My books aren't outlined to death, but the universe surrounding it might have been. There are so many things and events to fill in that I'm never really blanking on what needs to be written.
On those days that I'm not doing my best at writing, taking a step away from the keyboard is the best thing I can do. Seeing life, seeing people, and realizing the small truths about the world and piecing them into the book that I'm writing usually works.

Not that my opinion counts for much at this point. I'm new to the writing game myself.
If I had to give a single sentence of advice, it'd boil down to this: write what you want to.
I think it's really easy to fall into that mentality of doing something because it will sell. I understand the logic of the move perfectly. This is a business. The intent is to (hopefully) be paid so that you can spend a life dreaming and telling stories.
No shade thrown, but especially in paranormal romance and urban fantasy, I find that so many books have the same basic premise. I have to wonder how many wonderful, original ideas have been backlogged because (xyz) sub-genre was selling that year.

There's a laundry list, you know.
At the moment, I am revising Book Six in The Fool's Journey series, finishing the second draft of Book Seven, and writing the rough draft of Book Nine.
Keeping up with one book a month gets complicated at times.
