Ha, thanks for the question. It's always fun to discuss Jim Thompson.
On the top of my head, I'd say Pop 1.280, The Getaway and Nothing More Than Murder. They'll give you a good idea what he's (in)famous for.
Enjoy!

I'd go to 1920s Berlin. It's not exactly a fictional world but I love the Roaring Twenties. I'd do field research for my new book and watch some silent films that have gone lost.

oh, great question. And there's a lot on my plate. Let's see what I can get done. There'll be one of the few remaining Elmore Leonard books, the third part of Elena Ferrante's Palmero quartett, the next James Lee Burke Robichaux (I'm up to 13 or 14), a Carl Hiaasen (again, I'm making my way through his oeuvre chronologically - am on about the tenth book), James Herbert's Dune (though I'm still recovering from my last mammouth book, Stephen King's long version of The Stand), the second George Simenon's Maigret, if only to keep my French alive, a Jo Nesbit, a Donald Westlake Dortmunder (I've been missing the guy since finishing the Hunter Richard Stark series) and a few more than I can't think of on top of my head.
Those should keep me busy, though I'll also be busy working on my new book 'Murder in the Comfort Zone'.

in my travelling days, in the early 90s, I became seriously sick after taking preventive malaria tablets. If I could turn that story into a thriller plot (rather than a book of self-discovery, which is was, kinda, in reality) I'd be in business...

thankfully I don't tend to get blocked. My problem's the contrary. I don't have the time to do all the writing I'd like to do

I love writing. I adore the first bit, the purest form when you're developing the narrative from scratch. But I like every other section equally well, that is, very section bar the promoting...

write. The only way to write is to write. A routine can help. In my case, I always start with the outline. Once that's typed it's all a question of finding the time to write the prose. And re-write it, and re-write it again

I'm nearing the end of my second novel, at the of the current draft. It's called 'Times Lies' at the moment. It's set in 1980's Germany, i.e. during the Cold War when the country was still divided. It's kinda wicked, a serial killer who realises after years of killing people, that he has been picking the wrong victims. Watch this space

Actually, I have been writing stories before I was aware of what I was doing. As a kid I wanted to become a big Hollywood film star (I know, it is funny) so when I finally convinced my ma to buy a super-8 camera I had to write scripts so we had something to shoot. Inspiration has never been the problem. Nowadays it's time that's lacking

From travelling, from talking to people and from stuff I've always wanted to write
