Mascot Books does a fine job of working with you to layout the book and its cover. Their printers are top-notch. They do initial promotions of your book to Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Books-A-Million. They will get the promotional materials ready for you and will help you set up a Facebook page dedicated to promoting your book. Beyond that, the author is the primary sales rep for the book. I would recommend using them for high quality printing and publishing. They are thorough.

Several years ago, an acquaintance of mine was hiking during a summertime drought near Appomattox, Virginia and discovered the remains of a soldier near a dried-up creek bed. I remember asking him what he had done with his discovery. He replied that he and his buddy just left everything at the site and didn't want to be bothered with the remains. That has stuck with me for quite a long time.

Definitely write from your own personal experiences of where you have lived or visited. Also, have many conversations with yourself particularly when you are writing dialogue. That helps a lot and makes that the conversations you are writing about is as authentic as possible.

I have taken breaks to do other projects or tasks. Sometimes, I would do some reading about the topic or daydream about the type of scenario I want to share. Many times, an idea would come to mind when I least expected it.
