Jim Ody Hi Grange! No, I don't. I used to write music reviews and features for a number of websites.

If I was to write a non-fiction book, it would probably be a true crime book. I am fascinated by them, and would love the research, and detail gathering. I would also consider a biography, or ghost-writing an autobiography.
Jim Ody I honestly have never suffered from writer's block. Sometimes I find myself slugging through a scene that is neither thrilling, nor amusing, but these are important to keep the book flowing, so I push on. I think that if I ever did experience this then I would just start writing something else. I am confidant that my stories eventually write themselves.

I am used to suddenly having a spare hour so have to write then, so I cannot afford writers block. I have to have the ability to turn on and off my muse like a switch. Turning on is never an issue, but there will be times when I will have to drag myself away from the keyboard in order to get some sleep before morning!
Jim Ody Originally it was having my own book in print. That was something that I had always wanted. Now it is having readers contact me saying how much they have enjoyed my book. It makes all of the hard work worth it.

I have been overwhelmed by the number of people who have expressed a desire to see another book with these characters in. I created them to entertain myself, so if others have enjoyed them too, then that is a huge bonus!
Jim Ody The best advice that I can offer is to read as much as you can. Understand that genre that you write. Look at the market for this. From there write for yourself, the minute you try and write for others often the quality, and your enthusiasm will drop. Stay focused on what you are trying to achieve, and never be afraid to ask questions from other writers. I don't subscribe to the notion of being in competition with others, this is something that we can share, and evolve together.
Jim Ody My new book is currently called, 'The Place That Never Existed' (although this may well change!). I am a few chapters into it and really excited in how it is shaping up. In my true writing style, I have a very vague idea of the ending, but how I get there is still to be decided!

It is not a follow up to, 'Lost Connections', but if you have read it, then you will notice a couple of familiar characters... The tentative release date will be sometime at the end of the year.

I will also have a novella entitled, 'Mary-Ann' which is to be released Spring 2017.
Jim Ody Every time I read a book, or watch a movie I want to write. Pictures also inspire me, and this takes me back to my school days when my favorite lesson was in English, whereby we would pick an A4 photograph and write a story about it.
Jim Ody My ideas come sporadically over a long period of time. I started with the idea of a guy having his daughter kidnapped, and the wove the rest of the story around that.

I never plan my books out, but think of an idea and start writing, so I am intrigued, and entertained whilst writing it, completely unaware of where exactly the story is going to take me. I will then go back and fill in gaps, change scenes, and tweak bits accordingly.
