Dinotopia. (Runners up were Tortall, Pern, Earthsea and MiddleEarth). I'd travel the entire island and learn music, study the history and write a travelogue.

Ged and Tenar from Ursula LeGuin's Earthsea. They meet when they are young but go their separate ways, so they are middle-aged when they finally come together. They understand hard work, heartache and hard decisions, as well as simple joys, affection and fierce, quiet love.

The sequel to "The Siege of Masada" - further time travel adventures of Gwyn and Michelle.

Badly... Exercise, housework - let's me burn off some energy and let my subconscious to some work. I think as I do, and hopefully when I sit back down I have something to write. Staring at the computer trying to type is the worst.

Read, read, read - read your genre, read different genres, read reviews. Join a writers' group, try new things, take criticism, but ultimately, put words on paper. They don't have to be the best (they often won't be!). But writing is a skill like any other - you have to practise. I'm still learning so much, but my writing won't improve if I don't write!

I was inspired by a trip to Israel with my family when I was fourteen - we visited Masada and learned about the famous siege there. I love history, and I love the idea that there are turning points in history, where things could have gone quite differently. Time travel is a natural adventure, so why not send someone back in time to have a subtle influence on events? Not to mention the challenge of staying alive and trying to get back home!
