Hello Eric, I'm a Georgian who read your book "The Experiment" and soon will read your other book about the Texel uprising. I really enjoyed reading The Experiment and getting to know about the socialist past Georgia had which I honestly didn't know about. Now my question is, do you plan on writing books in the future about other socialist revolts for example short lived Gurian republic, Paris commune and etc.?
Eric Lee Thank you for that. My next book is about the 1924 uprising in Georgia - and the birth of democratic socialism. I hope it will appear in time for the 100th anniversary.

Hi Eric , we used to be neighbours many years ago in Ein Dor. I never knew about this event on Texel. Growing up in the Netherlands this event received no attention. I am intrigued and will have to read it! All the best?

How do you get inspired to write?
Eric Lee I'm inspired by the need to tell certain stories -- whether it's the long-forgotten story of the Georgian democratic socialists and the republic they created, or the story of a brave band of British commandos and their raid on Sark. These are stories that, I feel, need to be told.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?
Eric Lee The reactions you get from people who are touched by what you have written.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
Eric Lee Writing is hard work. Be prepared to put in long hours, and even years. And don't give up the day job. Long before I published my first book, I read hundreds of other books, and I knew my subject well. Read all you can.

How do you deal with writer’s block?
Eric Lee I can give a one-word answer: Deadlines. There's nothing like knowing that you'll be shot in the morning to focus a person's mind.

What are you currently working on?
Eric Lee Having completed work - which lasted for three decades - on Georgia, it's time to deal with an issue that came up in my research for the Georgia book: Stalin's early career as a double agent for the tsarist police. The book is tentatively called MOLE: STALIN AND THE OKHRANA and I hope to have it completed within the year.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Eric Lee My most recent book, The Experiment: Georgia's Forgotten Revolution 1918-1921, is something I've been working on (and off) for so many years that I don't really remember. I think I always knew that the Mensheviks had won power in just one part of the Russian empire after the fall of Tsarism, but it wasn't until the mid-1980s that I really started to get into the subject. The more I read about it, the more I understood the urgent importance of getting the word out that a democratic socialist alternative existed and exists. In my role in 2016 as an activist in Bernie Sanders' campaign, it became very clear to me that this message needed to get out to a wider audience.
